Fort Lauderdale, FL, March 1, 2010 — The M&A Advisor recently announced the 2010 finalists for the 4th Annual Turnaround Awards. Farlie Turner & Co.’s sale of DM Industries, Ltd. (“DMI”) under Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code was named a finalist in the Distressed M&A Deal of the Year (below $100 million) and the Retail Manufacturing / Distribution Deal of the Year categories. The nomination marks the second year in a row that Farlie Turner & Co. has been named a finalist by The M&A Advisor for Distressed M&A Deal of the Year.
The Turnaround Awards Gala honors excellence in deal-making in the distressed investing, restructuring and turnaround marketplace. This year, there are 99 finalists representing over 30 firms in 27 categories in the distressed investing, restructuring and turnaround marketplace. An independent body of experts that span the turnaround industry will be judging and determining the ultimate recipients of the award. Winners will then be revealed “Academy-Award style” at the awards gala, which is part of the M&A Advisor’s 4th Annual Distressed Investing Conference & Turnaround Awards Gala. The event is being held on Sunday, March 21st through Monday, March 22nd at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, FL.
“It is an honor to recognize the achievements and accomplishments of Farlie Turner in connection with the sale of DMI,” said Roger Aguinaldo, CEO, The M&A Advisor. “Despite these hard economic times, they have been able to restructure and rebuild companies setting an industry standard for their influential deals in the industry.”
According to Steven Zuckerman, Head of Farlie Turner's Special Situations Group, which specializes in representing underperforming and financially distressed companies, this was a very challenging transaction. "Despite being one of the leading manufacturers in the spa and bath industry, DMI had experienced significant erosion in sales due to the slowing economy and needed to find a partner that could shepherd it through the down cycle. Given the difficult economic environment, we were pleased to be able to execute a transaction with Maax Spa Industries (a portfolio company of Brookfield Asset Management), who will be able to capitalize on DMI's well known brands in the industry."
The Special Situations Group complements Farlie Turner's healthy investment banking practice, which focuses on serving growth-oriented middle market companies with enterprise values typically between $30 and $300 million. Farlie Turner & Co., LLC, and its affiliate Bayshore Partners, LLC, a broker-dealer registered with the FINRA, provide merger and acquisition, private placement, and financial advisory services.
